Celebrating Hard Work and Economic Resilience with a Year-End Gift!
Money isn’t everything. And Feast is definitely about more than money! But as we cross over the $1 million mark in profits our Chef Partners have earned, we want to highlight some ways this income has helped Immigrant and Former Refugee community members further establish their lives here in the Spokane community.
Economic resilience is part of Feast's mission, and since 2020 we've created a unique platform for people to earn significant income as they work hard sharing new flavor and culture with Spokane. We have so many stories of how this work has benefitted our community, and this fall, we'll tell some of those individual stories.
Of course, we couldn't do this without your community support, and we believe we can make an even wider and deeper impact as we build out the Feast World Kitchen Chef Program and Table Time Program for the benefit of all.
This Fall, our generous donors are giving to make sure Feast is a long-term, sustainable force for good in the lives of Immigrant and Former Refugee families, and in our community as a whole. We've had four families step up with $5K gifts they will chip in to match every single dollar for the first $20,000 we raise this fall, through the end of 2023.
**UPDATE!! OUR MATCH WAS COMPLETELY UNLOCKED ON GIVING TUESDAY, and our stretch goal OF $60K was met earlier this month! NOW, FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T GIVEN YET AND WISH TO SUPPORT, YOUR GIFT IS STILL VITAL! THROUGH 12/31/23 WE'RE FOCUSED ON FILLING UP OUR "COMMUNITY MEAL FUND"!**
ABOUT THE COMMUNITY MEAL FUND: Feast World Kitchen has a special bit of money called our “Community Meal Fund,” which was started by one of our most faithful volunteers and donors around Thanksgiving a few years ago. The fund is truly a “win-win” – it helps us avoid waste, helps our chef families avoid financial loss, and it helps local charities in our city have access to gourmet international food. Once in a while, one of our independent chef partner families cooks far more food than they can sell (sometimes an unexpected weather event makes the restaurant very slow, or a misunderstanding or miscalculation leads to a lot of extra food). In these cases, Feast uses the Community Meal Fund to pay the chef a fair rate for their extra food, and then safely distributes the food to a local shelter like Cup of Cool Water, the City Gate, Family Promise, etc. or sometimes to specific families in need that we know. We love that Community Meal Fund donors help turn a bad day into a good day, for those who cooked the food and for those who eat it!
